　　僧人在寺裡敲著木魚誦經，天下起了雨，僧人拿起木魚，走到禪房之外，看著門外的煙雨、思緒飄到了很遠的地方……
　　宋文帝時期、一守城將軍奉命駐守洛陽城，其間邂逅當地一名女子，一見如故、很快便私訂終身。 此時北魏來犯，將軍奉命出征，臨別時拉住女子的手：“等我打勝了後，一定回來迎娶你……”
　　倆人依依昔別，女子守在城門口，看著將軍坐在馬鞍之上，頭也不回地離去……
　　將軍此徵便是數月，其間南朝宋節節敗退，宋文帝一氣之下連斬二將，北魏全線出擊，強渡黃河，宋文帝不聽朝臣進言，發動強攻，無奈之下，洛陽失守。 宋文帝撤回北魏，而重傷的將軍則流落於伽藍寺中。
　　待將軍傷復之後，本想回朝，無奈此時北宋大勢已去，回去只有死路一條，死，將軍從未怕過，但想著曾經的誓言，加上對宋文帝亂殺良將之舉已至心寒，無奈之下，委身於伽藍寺為僧，希望有朝一日平昔戰火，再回到她的身旁。
　　他們昔別的城門，有一位女子經常坐在一塊石板上等著心愛的人回來。 每每遇到前方歸來的人，女子便問有沒有見過將軍，但始終沒有將軍得勝歸來的消息。
　　女子從未放棄過，仍然日復一日地等著。 這個故事，一傳十，十傳百，終於傳到了在伽藍寺出家的將軍耳裡。
　　但將軍不能回去，此時北魏已遷城洛陽，這是一個不爭的事實，南北朝戰爭還在繼續，他必須活下去，等到戰爭結束那一天……
　　不知道多少年，戰爭終於結束了。
